Ss. Peter and Paul parishioners and St. Joseph parishioners:
We have talked extensively about changing the Mass schedule. We were going to enact the new schedule on the weekend of July 13/14. However we must speed up that schedule. Having talked to the City of Boonville this morning, I have been informed that MoDot has indefinitely closed Hwy 5 north of the river because they have already seen substantial damage to the road that will need to be addressed once the flood waters recede.
As the Mass schedule stands now, it is not possible for me to make the 30-40 mile drive (depending on what direction is open) and make the Mass at Fayette.
On the weekend of June 15/16 we will move to the new Mass schedule. Mass will be at St. Joseph in Fayette at 8:30 and at SS Peter and Paul in Boonville at 10:30.
I am sorry for the hardship this might cause, but the numbers are not bearing out a necessity for a second Sunday Mass at Boonville and we never thought in the planning process we would be dealing with such historic flooding.
For St. Joseph parishioners this weekend: If the Rocheport exit is open, I will do my best to make the 9:15. Otherwise, we will cancel Mass as we did last week. I made the drive last night for Tuesday night Mass and determined that was no responsible way I could make it in time for either your Mass or the 11:00 at Ss. Peter and Paul.
If we had the number of priests we need, we wouldn’t be having any of this conversation: so pray for, encourage, nurture priestly vocations from our own parishes. Because we are in this crisis does not mean we need to stay in this crisis. There is always hope.
