October 24, 2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
I was reflecting this morning on how busy the months of October and November have been and are going to be at Saints Peter and Paul. We are so very lucky to have such great support from our parishioners and our cadre of volunteers (“boots on the ground”) that labor to bring together some really important events that are occurring during the weeks ahead. I would like to highlight a few of these:
This weekend our Parish Mission “Igniting Our Faith” begins with Father Ron Hoye of Vincentian Parish Missions. Father Hoye will be celebrating the weekend Masses on October 26th and 27th and the Mission Presentations begin October 28-30, beginning at 7:00 p.m. These presentations will be 40 minutes long with hospitality following in the Church Hall. There is babysitting available. If you wish to use the babysitting service, please check out the front page of our website for the form and instructions.
Following the Mission is our famous SS Peter and Paul Turkey Dinner on November 3rd. The Turkey Dinner Committee is working very hard on the planning and preparation for one of our signature celebrations. This is also our biggest fundraiser of the year, so we encourage you to spread the news to your friends and family and invite them to come enjoy a great meal and great fellowship. There is also a cash prize raffle and carry-out meals available.
In November, we will begin the month by celebrating All Saint’s Day and holding First Friday Adoration, then throughout the entire month we will be remembering those in our Parish who have gone to join our Lord in the past year. We don’t just use this time to remember our recent losses, but we also use the month of November to remember and pray for those who have passed on in the previous years. We pray in Thanksgiving that they blessed our lives and we also pray in Thanksgiving for all of the blessings God has given us.
To honor and remember those we have lost, we will be holding a special “Remembrance Service” at 7:00 p.m. on November 13th in our Church. More information about this special service will be forthcoming. It will be a lovely way to remember those we have lost and to send prayers to heaven for them and for those of us who may be struggling with the loss of a particular loved one(s).
We will also begin presenting the “Catholicism” series by Father Robert Barron. This is an Adult Christian Education DVD series that is beautifully filmed and the commentary by Father Barron is easy to understand and makes you appreciate our chosen Faith at a much deeper level.
Last, but not least, we will hold our annual Thanksgiving Day Mass at 8:15 a.m. on November 28th. And then before we know it we will be celebrating the Advent Season.
We hope to see you at some of our events and may you enjoy a Blessed Fall Season.
In Christ’s love,
Chair, Pastoral Council
