Please join us for a “Welcome to the Parish” gathering for Father Basil on Sunday, July 12, after the 11:00 a.m. mass. Cookies and punch will be served.
Thank you so much, Father Bob, for all your years of service to our parish. While you have been here, many great things have been accomplished in our church and school:
During your 13 years with our parish, you have welcomed in 350 new members of our Church through the sacrament of baptism, welcomed to the Table of the Lord for the first time 300 youth and adults through First Eucharist, helped to prepare for Confirmation 348 students, celebrated the union of 94 couples through the sacrament of Marriage, and unfortunately said good-bye to 237 parishioners who passed on to the kingdom of Heaven while you were here. Of course, we cannot forget all those you have counseled, absolved of their sins, brought weekly communion to, anointed, and assisted in any way that you can when they are facing difficulties in their life.
In our church, you helped to get the pews, carpet, and altar area updated. You also brought in at least double the profits to our Annual Turkey Dinner by changing the way the Cash Prize Drawing was held. You furthermore helped to upgrade the kitchen in the church hall to make it more efficient with a commercial-grade gas stove and more preparation space.
At our school, you helped to implement raises for our teachers and update our students’ textbooks in the first year you arrived. Each year the salary increases continue as you work to bring salaries in line with diocesan expectations. You also helped to put into effect a stronger focus on academics as well as a sense of pride and belonging through our school’s dress-code. You began (and have continued) our school’s process of Covenant Agreements for the school/parish families. You were instrumental in helping to re-establish our school as a ministry of the parish. Additionally, you had a strong voice in turning “Project Hope” into “Continuing the Vision”.
With your great knowledge of the Old Testament and Gospels, our Junior High students are now also more well-informed of these areas of our faith through your weekly religion classes. They also have had an opportunity to learn to ski or hone their skills at this sport. You helped to establish a community-wide soccer program, working to educate parents and children about the sport as well as coaching and officiating. Through this work, children were able to see a priest as an active and involved member of the wider community.
For all of these efforts, we, the members of SS. Peter & Paul Parish say THANK YOU! and wish you great luck and happiness, in your move to St. Peter in Marshall. May God continue to bless you in your vocation.
